What is Pharmacogenomic Testing?

A pharmacogenomic test is a genetic test that looks at one or several genes to assess how they may affect medication metabolism or the breakdown of medication. How a patient breaks down a medication affects how well the patient will respond to a medication. The pharmacogenetic report will give insight to the provider on how efficacious and safe a medication is likely to be and will help the provider select the most appropriate medication, at the optimal dose, to increase chances of medication efficacy and reduce the risk of side effects . Testing is as easy as providing a cheek (buccal) swab from home and mailing the sample to the lab!

Is pharmacogenomic testing for me ?

Well, that depends! Are you tired of trial and error medication prescribing ? If a patient is taking several prescribed medications, concerned about whether or not a medication is truly working at the dose prescribed, or if the medication is causing side effects, then a pharmacogenomic test may help resolve those concerns! The results of the test may allow the provider to make more informed decisions when selecting a medication and dose of a medication.

How does this work?

It’s simple! Schedule a discovery call to discuss with the pharmacist if pharmacogenomic testing is appropriate for you or your loved one. After the order is placed, a testing kit will be sent home to be completed by the patient and then mailed to the lab. Once the results are in, the pharmacist will review the report with you and a medication therapy recommendation report will be shared with the prescribing provider.
